Introducing OpenAI Pulse: Your Personalized Morning Reports

OpenAI has launched the ChatGPT Pulse feature. This new tool transforms ChatGPT into a proactive digital assistant by gathering your personal plans and the day’s agenda into tailored reports prepared for you in the mornings. OpenAI is adding a new feature it calls Pulse to ChatGPT. This feature generates personal reports while users sleep, allowing them to catch up on the day with 5 to 10 short summaries when they wake up. The goal is for users to check ChatGPT first thing in the morning instead of social media or news apps.
Transition from Chatbot to Assistant

Pulse is part of OpenAI’s recent product strategy. The company aims to move ChatGPT beyond being just a question-answering chatbot to become a proactive digital assistant. Features like ChatGPT Agent and Codex also reflect this approach.
Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI, states in a blog post:
“We want to make the level of support that was previously only accessible to the wealthiest available to everyone. ChatGPT Pulse is the first step on this journey.”
Currently for Pro Users Only

As noted by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, products requiring intensive processing power are first opened to the highest subscription tiers. Pulse is being rolled out within this framework, starting with subscribers to the $200 monthly Pro plan. The feature will appear as a new tab in the ChatGPT application.
The company aims to open Pulse to Plus users and all subscribers in the future. However, this requires the feature to become more efficient in its operation.
Personalized Reports
Pulse can prepare both news summaries on current events and reports tailored to personal interests. For example:
- Updates related to your favorite sports team
- Family-friendly holiday plan suggestions
- Costume ideas or menu options
The generated reports are presented in a “card” format with images and short text. It’s possible to click on the cards for details and then ask ChatGPT questions about the report’s content.
Balanced Presentation Over Overload
After preparing the day’s reports, Pulse ends the process with the message, “That’s all for today.” This is a deliberate design choice; the aim is to differentiate the experience from social media apps with their endless scrolling logic.
Integration and Personalization
Pulse can connect to apps like Gmail or Google Calendar using ChatGPT’s Connectors feature. Thus, in the morning, you can see a summary of your important emails or find your day’s agenda automatically prepared.
If ChatGPT’s memory feature is enabled, Pulse also draws from your previous conversations. For instance, for a user who enjoys running, running routes can be added to a travel itinerary. Suitable options can be suggested from restaurant menus based on dietary preferences.
A Competitor to News Apps?
Pulse presents content with source citations and may indirectly compete with Apple News, paid newsletters, or newspapers. However, OpenAI notes that Pulse is intended to offer a different experience rather than replacing these applications.
What Does the Future Hold?
The future plan for Pulse is to go beyond just preparing reports and take on more advanced functions, such as making restaurant reservations or drafting emails for your approval. However, this requires more reliable “agent” models, and that process may take some time.
